Happy 2013!…Let’s Start With Winter Safety

Everybody loves the snow right? The endless snow days where we count the minutes to send the kids back to school. The car door that we can’t open because it is frozen shut. The race we keep losing against the snails because traffic is so slow. Late to work again because rush hour becomes rush four hours…Or….

The beauty of the snow as it covers the hibernating land in a picturesque blanket. The snow day we get to have because the kids had a snow day and can’t stay home alone (which leads to snowmen, snow angels, snow ball fights, crazy sledding races and sugary maple snow treats). The snow day we get because the car door won’t open and the traffic is too heavy, so we have to “work from home”.

Whichever snow day you get, winter safety remains paramount. Here are some winter safety tips to help you throughout the winter season:

– Get your car in tip top shape – have it tuned up so it will have optimum use, response and gas mileage.

– Make sure your car’s gas tank is full so you don’t get stuck in extra long traffic lines, and you have car has fuel in case you get stranded.

– Have an emergency survival kit in your car with extra blankets, a flashlight with extra batteries, non-perishable/high energy foods like nuts, ice scraper and more.

Cool winter meeting at the Meriden Sheraton 4 Points and phone conference call 12/10/12

InBusinessLinks Network’s Featured Business was Direct Link. Lynn introduced their new emergency response systems. She plans to return in early 2013 with a more formal presentation demostrating the new products they offer. Professional Secure Assistance closed the year, for us, with some words of wisdom. Dave has been a great meeting monitor. Fish Window Cleaning and Great White “cleaned-up”, sort-to-speak. Kevin’s involvement did reach new heights. Look for new things to happen in the year ahead! The 2nd Monday, of each month, will be busy with activities: The Featured Business; plans for more meetings; conference calls or video chats; and social media business netWORKing. …Thanks for all the involvement in 2012 and here’s to a productive 2013 from Design For Communication.

Superstorm Sandy Aftermath

Superstorm Sandy Aftermath (Credit: hint.fm)

Superstorm Sandy hit the northeast hard on Monday, October 30, 2012. During November, we will be facing clean-up and cooler weather. Here are some clean-up tips in the wake of the storm:

– Use a camera to document all damage to your house, cars, or property. When filing an insurance claim, photographic documentation is essential.

– With extensive flood damage and excess moisture, mold can be a major problem. Open windows, use fans, dehumidifiers, and products such as cat litter to help dry up excess moisture and prevent mold. Remove wet wall paper and areas where moisture can retained.

– Check the outside of your home and hose down and excess mud. Remove debris.

– Have your home inspected by a contractor or building inspector in case of extensive flood or water damage. This is also key for insurance claims.

– Disinfect any part of the interior of your house that was in contact with flood waters. Use bleach, water, and disinfectant.

Please stay safe!
